SEVENTY SEVEN (77) INDIAN AND TWELVE (12) SRI LANKAN FISHERMEN REPATRIATED

       Seventy seven (77) Indian and twelve (12) Sri Lankan fishermen were in custody of their respective countries in case of violation of International Maritime Boundary Line and engaging in illegal fishing practices, were released and repatriated to their counties on 13th March2017.

       The Sri Lanka Coast Guard and The Sri Lanka Navy assisted in the repatriation of fishermen, in the International Maritime Boundary Line, North of Kankesanthurai.The Sri Lanka Coast Guard Fast Patrol Boat ‘CG 47’ and The Sri Lanka Navy Ship Prathapa handed over Indian fishermen to the Indian Coast Guard Ships ‘Rani Durgawathi’ and ‘Abheek’ and subsequently, the Sri Lankan fishermen were brought to SLNS Uththara and handed over to the Assistant Director Fisheries of Kankasanthurai for onward action.
