SLCG APPREHENDED 55 NO’S ILLEGALLY HARVESTED ALIVE LOBSTERS

     The Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel deployed at Coast Guard Station ‘Kirinda’ arrested/ apprehended illegally harvested alive lobsters out at sea on 7th November 2019. Seven Lobsters out of fifty five were breeding lobsters.

     Lobster fishing has been banned during the months of February, September and October since it is the reproductive season and also the purchase, sale, transport or possession of lobster carrying external eggs, the removal of the eggs of a lobster shall be a fine not exceeding fifty thousand rupeesas per Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (Amendment) 23 Act, No. 35 of 2013

     Arrested persons and apprehended items were handed over to the ADF -Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Tangalle for legal actions and Lobsters are due to be released to the sea on receipt of order by the courts.
